Joe Brancato discusses the return of Miracle on South Division Street, Penguin Rep Theatre’s 2025 season in Stony Point, and their growing presence in New York City with a new residency at 59E59 Theatres.

Westchester Collaborative Theater (WCT) will continue its popular Comedy Night series on Friday, June 13, with a lineup of three New York City-based stand-up comedians recognized for their work on national television and in film.

On Wednesday, June 18 at 8pm, The Roast of Gram Parsons takes over Fred's Dog House (354 Grand St, Brooklyn) for a night of dark comedy, live music, and one of the wildest true stories in rock history.

The tightly produced, crisply presented piece directed by Schoolhouse Producing Director Bram Lewis stars Wali Jamal in a thoroughly engaging and formidable performance that also profiles Mr. Armstrong’s lifelong manager Mr. Joe Glaser and another deity straight from the Mount Olympus of jazz, Mr. Miles Davis. Mr. Jamal skillfully presents the three as distinct personalities without overdoing it. He represents them rather than impersonates them, which is a wise choice because there only is one sun in this universe and it is the one and only Satchmo.

The NANCE is currently enjoying a succesful and critically aclaimed run at Elmwood Playhouse in Nyack, NY.  We caught up with the play's director Alan Demovsky to chat a bit about the play's message and its extraordinary significance in today's increasingly repressive political climate.

Satchmo at the Waldorf Hits the Schoolhouse Theater – Get Your Tickets!

In it's landmark 40th season, The Schoolhouse Theater hits a high note with 'Satchmo at the Waldorf.' It is a bold and emotional one-man show that digs into the life and legacy of jazz legend Louis Armstrong. Written by Terry Teachout, the play imagines Armstrong backstage at the Waldorf-Astoria near the end of his life, reflecting on his career, his struggles, and the complicated relationships that shaped him—especially with his longtime manager Joe Glaser and fellow jazz icon Miles Davis.

This is a colorful, nimble tapestry textured with high-stakes pathos alternating with low humor, weaving a spell of superior and highly original stage entertainment. 

Get ready to laugh, reflect, and feel deeply with Brainstorm, a one man show staring Elihu Ngbodi unraveling the journey of a young Nigerian caught in the beautiful chaos of growing up.

Amadeus was written by Peter Shaffer in 1979 and premiered at the Royal National Theatre in London. The play made its Broadway debut in 1980, running for an impressive 1,181 performances. It earned five Tony Awards, including Best Play, as well as the Drama Desk Award for Outstanding New Play. In 1984, it was adapted into a film, which won eight Academy Awards, including Best Picture.
